Bigstep presents O'Reilly webcast on getting the most from a NoSQL DB
Many IT directors are failing to get the optimum performance from their infrastructure. So we’ve been conducting a number of benchmarking studies to see to how this can be improved and our product manager Alex Bordei will be talking through the findings on an O’Reilly webcast on 7 August.
Poor infrastructure performance can have major repercussions for any business - higher operational costs, ineffective and uninformed decision making and inefficient utilisation of resource. But we have found that performance can be improved by up to 60 per cent, with the need for a costly upgrade or migration. Read on for a sneak preview.
Interested in a 60 per cent infrastructure improvement?
If you asked any IT director whether they would be interested in that 60 per cent improvement to their infrastructure performance, you’d get mostly ‘yes’ in response. If you then said that this could be done to ANY infrastructure and be done with zero or minimal investment, then I think the answer would be exclusively ‘yes’.
Revealing how this can be done, will be our product manager, Alex Bordei, in an exclusive O’Reilly webcast entitled ‘Getting the Most Out of Your NoSQL DB - Best Practices for Optimizing Infrastructure Performance and Budget’.
Taking place on 7 August, it will be hosted by O’Reilly’s Chief Data Scientist and Director of Content Strategy for Data, Ben Lorica, a true big data luminary.
About Ben Lorica
Ben Lorica is the Chief Data Scientist and Director of Content Strategy for Data at O’Reilly Media, Inc.. He has applied Business Intelligence, Data Mining, Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis in a variety of settings including Direct Marketing, Consumer and Market Research, Targeted Advertising, Text Mining, and Financial Engineering. His background includes stints with an investment management company, internet startups, and financial services. He writes regularly about Big Data and Data Science on the O’Reilly Data blog.
Performance is everything
Alex Bordei has been developing infrastructure products for more than nine years, so has a deep understanding of their importance and how to get the very best performance from them. Performance is always key with an infrastructure, but perhaps even more so in the era of big data.
Managing and analysing big data can deliver unparalleled business insight and is deployed by many industries and many departments within enterprises. But it takes vast amounts of computing power to do this, especially if you are looking at real-time analysis. And virtual environments are simply not suited to big data. Big data applications offer powerful analytics, but such applications are greedy for power hungry and crunch this type and volume of data, a powerful infrastructure is required.
We believe big data apps work best over a bare metal cloud such as ours. We have removed the hypervisor to enable massively increased performance and as it stands, our infrastructure is the fastest public computing infrastructure in the world.
But the hardware refinements Alex will be discussing during the O’Reilly webcast on 7 August are suitable for ANY infrastructure. So if you’re in IT and want to get up to 60 per cent more performance from your NoSQL DB, feel free to register.
